The villa is located at Oualidia on the Atlantic coast between Safi and El Jadida, 180 km away from Marrakesh and Casablanca. In former times this part of the Barbary Coast was the scene of incursions by Portuguese colonists and pirates; two rusty cannons in the garden bear witness to Oualidia’s warlike past. Nowadays the main activities in the region are agriculture, fishing and oyster cultivation. The town enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm summers. The town has one main street with shops, fruit market and cafes, and a long winding road leading down to the lagoon with seafood restaurants, three small hotels and a scattering of villa.
Description The house is a luxurious 30's villa overlooking the lagoon. Situated near the old kasbah, the house has been refurbished using a combination of modern and traditional Moroccan techniques. All rooms have moucharrabieh woodwork and tadlakt (polished plaster) floors. The house has three en-suite bedrooms, a large kitchen, library, roof terrace and salon with wood-burning stove, stereo, DVD player and a panoramic view of the ocean. The house is surrounded by an acre of private walled garden planted with palm trees, eucalyptus, hibiscus, oleander and bougainvillea. Three hours from Marrakech, the pace is slow and unhurried. By day you can sunbathe or snooze on the roof terrace, gazing down at the lagoon far below you. By night, you can look up at a panoply of stars with only the distant roar of the sea and the rustle of wind in the tamarisk trees.
